- 1841 census: James Duncan “Day Labourer” age 50 (born abt 1791), Marjory Duncan age 42 (born abt 1799) are living in Ardybroun, Chapel of Garioch. No family with them.
- Note also 1841 census: May Duncan age 35, James Duncan “Labourer” age 35, William Duncan age 7, Alex M Duncan age 4, John Duncan age 1 8/12 living in John St, Aberdeen. But this is unlikely to the the right family as (i) later census have this James Duncan as a “Provision Merchant” whereas May Leith/Duncan’s husband is a farmer (from her death cert), (ii) May Duncan in Aberdeen city does not seem to be a Leith (searching for May Leith/Duncan only turns up one entry in Chapel of Garioch – below), (iii) location in Chapel of Garioch matches death cert, (iv) lack of children.
- 1851 census: James Duncan age 61 “Farmer of 7 Acres” and wife May Duncan age 61 living in Airdrebrown, Chapel of Garioch. No family with them. James born abt 1790 in Tears (Tarves ?), Forfar. May born abt 1798 in Cluny.
- Note also 1851 censis: James Duncan age 46 (born abt 1805 in Drunblade “Provision Merchant”) May Duncan age 49 (born abt 1802 in Forgan) living in 3 St Andrew St, Aberdeen West with children Isabella Duncan age 7 (b abt 1844 in Forgan), Mary Duncan age 21 (b abt 1830 in Aberdeen), Alexander Duncan age 14 (b. abt 1837 in Forgue ?).
- May Duncan/Leith died 1873 age 73 in Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeen. Widow of James Duncan “Farmer”. From death cert, parents are James Leith “Farmer” and Margaret Leith nee Webster.
